Each year, Black History Month highlights the contributions of African Americans to United States history. Created in 1926 by historian and scholar Carter G. Woodson, it continues to serve as a month-long moment of reflection on the impact African Americans have had on academia, entertainment, sports, science, politics, and art. The National Civil War Naval Museum in Columbus, Georgia is proud to take part in this celebration. Although the museum, highlights these important contributions daily, they will commemorate Black History Month with a special guided tour and program, "Lift Every Voice: African Americans in Civil War Navies”.

Featuring: Virginia (Ginny) Treanor, Associate Curator, National Museum of Women in the Arts “Nevertheless, They Persisted: A Brief History of Women Artists” A native Washingtonian, Ginny has worked in a number of museums in D.C. including the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the National Gallery of Art. Ginny received her MA in art history from American University in 2002 and completed her Ph.D. in the same field at the University of Maryland in 2011 where she specialized in seventeenth-century Dutch art.
